"Calls to suicide prevention hotlines increased by 50% after Logic's VMA performance of '1-800-273-8255' "

"The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline reported a huge spike in calls following the rapper’s performance on Sunday."

Logic, a rapper, has been reported to have struggled with depression and thoughts of suicide. This is what he says inspired him to write this song. He was joined by suicide attempt survivors, who was wearing t-shirts with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline's phone number on it.

"It's not just about the calls; it's about increasing awareness about suicide, and suicide prevention in particular," John Draper, director of the lifeline, told CNN. "

Logic found his "Light" by learning the power of using a single word to deal with his anxiety: NO!

Lyrics include, "It's holding on though the road's long / And seeing light in the darkest things / And when you stare at your reflection / Finally knowing who it is / I know that you'll thank God you did,"

and, "I don't wanna cry anymore / I wanna feel alive / I don't even wanna die anymore / Oh I don't wanna / I don't wanna / I don't even wanna die anymore"

The video "1-800" has accumulated more than 15 million views on YouTube so far.

Logic is cultivating calls with a song about getting help and finding hope. It's doesn't focus on tragedy or suicide. Actually, he's starting conversations about suicide prevention, not suicide itself.

Active members of local suicide prevention chapters work vigorously to spread the word of suicide prevention. It is as easy as sharing a number, sharing an article, sharing on social media, or sharing a video that can give hope to the hopeless.

Suicide is the most tragic to the family and loved ones of the person who committed suicide. There are an array of emotions involved, like sadness and depression, and even anger or resentment. Crime and Trauma Scene Cleanup services like Las Vegas' Rapid Responders have seen it all; everyone involved is a victim.

That's why compassionate advocates for suicide prevention are so important. It is so easy to save a life; it's as simple as knowing who to call and having someone to talk to.

If you or someone you know are in crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741-741.

Save someones life and share this article right now!
